CHICKENS IN TEXAS

BY LAWSON MARCHETTI

Carol Joy Perryman – a southern transplant – and her husband, Reginald – a British expat – live large in an Upper West Side penthouse. The Perrymans are mid-renovations in the hopes of impressing the crotchety LadyMargaret, the terminally-ill matriarch and possessor of the family fortune (a poultry empire in Texas). When LadyMargaret arrives early with her whippersnapper new husband, it sets chaos into motion. Their premature presence disrupts Carol Joy’s plans, startles Reginald, and wreaks havoc on the entire NewYork contingency. Inheritance of the fowl Texan enterprise is at stake as numerous parties raise questions of succession and familial legitimacy. The bastards! The play spotlights a comically uncompromising family and the lengths to which they are willing to go in order to secure a colossal inheritance, pulling a multitude of unsuspecting and eccentric bystanders into their midst.
